There is no denying the fact that the keto diet is fantastic for losing weight and shredded in no time. Even movie star, Alicia Vikander, used it to get lean and taut for the filming of Tomb Raider. It’s so effective that even if you’re short on time and only have about 4 weeks to get “beach body” ready, the keto diet can work wonders, especially when it’s combined with intermittent fasting.

Keto Diet and Intermittent Fasting

Why does the keto diet give you faster results?

Unlike conventional diets which mostly rely on calorie-restriction, the keto diet puts you in a state of ketosis. That means your body will be in fat-burning mode round the clock. When you’re on a calorie-restriction diet, you’ll be at a caloric deficit of about 500 to 700 calories. The problem here is that the body is using glucose for fuel. So, even if you’re expending more calories than you consume, the body uses up the glucose in your blood first, before it starts burning fat.

It is almost impossible to lose fat when there’s glucose in your blood. Because of this, a lot of time is wasted and even if you’re losing weight, the results are slow to come, and you struggle for every pound that you lose. When you’re on a keto diet, your body is burning fat for fuel. You’ve trained your body to use ketones as a fuel source. So now, your body is burning fat constantly. Since your carb consumption will be around 20 to 50 grams, your glucose levels will be very low and not an issue. No time is wasted, and you can lose more weight in less time.

Intermittent fasting

When you’re in a fasted state, your body will reach ketosis much faster. That makes intermittent fasting a wonderful protocol that complements the ketogenic diet perfectly. Being in a fasted state keeps your blood sugar levels stable and your body’s fat-burning process will not be impeded. The longer your fasting window, the more effective your weight loss results will be. For example, a 16-hour fasting window followed by an 8-hour eating window is good. However, a 20-hour fasting window followed by a 4-hour eating window is even better. Some people may go on 24-hour fasts and that’s fantastic. It requires will power and discipline, but if you can do it, you will see rapid weight loss and fasting is very beneficial to your body.

Do note that when you’re intermittent fasting, you will not be starving. All your calories for the day will be consumed within the eating window. So, you’re still getting your daily nutrients, but you’re getting them all in a short window. This will leave more time for your body to burn its fat stores for fuel instead of the fats you’ve eaten. All the stubborn belly fat that you’ve been struggling to lose will be burned off and you’ll be lean and look like a brand new you.

The ketogenic diet is probably one of the most outstanding diets in terms of fat loss. If you’ve been struggling to lose weight for ages, it’s time to get yourself on keto and shed the stubborn pounds once and for all.
